Turkish living in Berlin. In Kreuzberg, a lot of Turkish immigrants gather together here, missing their sweet home. When it comes to something delightful in their hometown, warm weather, delicious food as well as nice beaches are most frequently mentioned. All of these elements make up a safety harbor, a comfort zone and a delightful space, which will sometimes appear in Turkish people’s minds when they are standing on the street in Berlin.
We collaged a series of graphics with a combination of elements from both Berlin and Turkey, showing the contrast those immigrants are being through and the mixed emotion they have at the same time.

 

In this webpage (click to view ) ,there are 14 scenes from Turkey that remind Turkish of delightful memories based on our interview in the Turkish neighborhood. Those pictures remind Turkish people warm weather and beautiful sea in Turkey. On the other hand, there are six images of Kreuzberg are overlap and blended with Turkish scenes to illustrate the non-imaginary spaces constructed with the memories and realities in Turkish immigrants’ minds.



“Time” is the important factor in this interactive webpage: the capacity of images will change gradually every second and whenever the page was refreshed. Also, the order of images will change every minute to symbolize Turkish immigrants’ complex feelings of being far away from home.
